The project Star-COLIBRI ("Strategic Targets for 2020 – Collaboration Initiative on Biorefineries") was funded under the 7th Framework Programme of the EU and aimed to assess synergies and overlaps between existing biorefinery R&D projects, in order to promote more transparency and cooperation between these projects and respective funding agencies in this area. After two years of successful collaborations Star-COLIBRI came to an end on 31 October 2011.

Star-COLIBRI brought together 12 institutions from Belgium, Germany, Britain, Finland, France and the Netherlands, including five European Technology Platforms. FNR was party to the initiative through the European Biofuels Technology Platform (EBTP).

Further to this, Star-COLIBRI’s goal was to improve and support collaboration between research and industry. One of the highlights was the development of the „Joint European Biorefinery Vision for 2030“ and „European Biorefinery Joint Strategic Research Roadmap for 2020“. Both documents are intended provide a framework to the further development of the biorefinery concept.
