The Handbook for the Rapid Implementation Framework of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) Sustainability Indicators for Bioenergy was launched on 8 December 2021. The Handbook, which was developed by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), aims to guide practitioners in carrying out rapid assessments of the sustainability of their local bioenergy sector. Developed in 2011, the Sustainability Indicators provide the basis for policy recommendations. The Handbook includes descriptions of priority bioenergy value chains, an evidence-based prioritisation of GBEP indicators, information of safeguards and good practices, as well as specific Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) practices.
In the next step, the Rapid Implementation Framework will be piloted in different countries. Ultimately, the goal is to develop an online tool.
