ADVANCEFUEL successfully held its 4th Stakeholder Workshop in Brussels

The fourth ADVANCEFUEL workshop has been organised back to back with the Stakeholder Plenary Meeting of the European Technology and Innovation Platform Bioenergy (ETIP Bioenergy’s SPM9) and the Final Forum of Bioenergy Sustaining Future (BESTF3) on 21 November 2019. The combined organisation of these events was undertaken for assembling as many sector specific experts as possible to discuss the latest findings and the next steps forward in the mutual effort to reduce GHG emissions in the transport sector.

The ADVANCEFUEL project is coordinated by FNR and funded under the European HORIZON 2020 programme. It aims to facilitate the market roll-out of advanced renewable fuels (RESfuels) by identifying the main barriers and finding strategies to address them. This happens in close collaboration with the involved market players to ensure a realistic implementation potential in the market.

During ADVANCEFUEL’s 4th Stakeholder Workshop, promising scenarios and innovations for the further development of RESfuels were presented and discussed with the 50+ attendees. The scenarios are based on a comprehensive modelling approach, which considered all relevant steps of the value chain (e.g. feedstock costs and potential, logistics, technology performance, market demand and sustainability safeguarding). Other, more specific topics of the workshop included the future sustainable feedstock availability (beyond 2030) and projections of the further development of the involved conversion technologies. Additionally, first dedicated policy recommendations were discussed with the participants in an interactive approach.

The results of the workshop will be used in the continuing project work and will influence related reports and eventually also the recommendations the ADVANCEFUEL team will provide to the market players and policy makers.

The next ADVANCEFUEL Stakeholder workshop will be held at the EUBCE in Marseille at the end of April 2020.
