The COASTAL Biogas project focuses on the removal of excess nutrients from the Baltic Sea by collecting und utilising cast seaweed from beaches. With this approach, eutrophication in the Baltic Sea will be tackled on one hand and, by utilising the marine biomass for biogas production, the project contributes to the transition towards a circular bioeconomy on the other hand.
One of the aims in COASTAL Biogas is to inform about the whole process chain of cast seaweed utilisation. In addition to the previously uploaded information kit (see news from 28.05.2020), also educational material on the topic of eutrophication is available on the project website now: It contains a memory-domino game and a Kahoot! online quiz with two levels of difficulty, which can be played in school classes. Pupils will learn about the causes and effects of eutrophication and can battle their classmates on their gained knowledge. It also provides teachers with a fact sheet and explanations to the game and quiz. Soon, similar material on the topic of biogas will be available as well.
