Climate change is on the rise, and one large factor is the excessive greenhouse gas emissions produced from the transport sector. By using advanced biofuels from sustainable biomass, CO2 emissions could be reduced by 70% in comparison to emissions produced from fossil fuels. For these reasons, it has become critical to implement fuels from renewables into transportation mechanisms. This is especially true considering the elements of the RED II, and in meeting requirements of the Paris agreement. Advanced biofuels are the future for the sector however, we still are not utilising this resource to its full potential. The question remains- “Why don’t we use more Advanced Biofuels?” There are still many barriers preventing or reducing a successful market uptake. The FNR coordinated EU project ADVANCEFUEL (funded by the H2020 program) addresses these challenges. Several results considering different steps in the value chain have already be published on the project’s website. Just recently, a new promotion video on “Removing barriers to RESfuels” was published by ADVANCEFUEL.
Duration of the project: September 2017 - August 2020
This project has received funding from the European Union´s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 764799.
