On 8 December 2021 the BIOEASTsUP project organised a peer review exercise “Bioeconomy to boost your business”. This was the final peer review from a series of five events aiming at exchange of good practices on knowledge and technology transfer from the region to be shared with policy makers and other relevant stakeholders. The current online workshop was dedicated to early-stage companies respectively Start Ups and SMEs.
Enterprises oriented towards the conversion of biobased materials to utilizable products and services are at the heart of bioeconomy. Three cases of innovative companies from bioeconomy were showcased by representatives of Citrion, an entrepreneurial non-profit, Greek bioeconomy-oriented start-up company, the Irish-based PhytoTowel, and Slovenian Acies Bio biotechnology contract research organization. Besides the business case-studies, experienced peers from FNR, AKI, University Ljubljana, Quadro Synergy, ART and AMERESCO summarized good practices of technology transfer to inspire SMEs from the BIOEAST macro region. Moreover, the role policymakers can play to support technology transfer and cooperation between research organisations and entrepreneurs to enhance the implementation of bioeconomy initiatives was discussed.
