SET-Plan IWG 8
The European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) is a key stepping-stone to boost the transition towards a climate neutral energy system through the development of low-carbon technologies in a fast and cost-competitive way.
By improving new technologies and bringing down costs through coordinated national research efforts, the SET Plan helps promote cooperation among EU countries, companies and research institutions, and in so doing also deliver on the key objectives of the energy union.
The SET Plan consists of the SET Plan Steering Group, the European Technology and Innovation Platforms (ETIPs), the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA), and the SET Plan Information System (SETIS).
The SET-Plan has ten Key Actions to achieve its objectives. FNR represents Germany, on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, in Key Action 8 “Renewable Fuels and bioenergy”. In October 2017, interested Member States/Associated countries, stakeholders and the European Commission held the kick off meeting of the SET Plan temporary working group (TWG) on Renewable fuels and bioenergy. This TWG, chaired by national representatives from Finland and Italy and co-chaired by the European Technology & Innovation Platform on Bioenergy (ETIP Bioenergy), drafted an Implementation plan containing concrete R&I activities, and proposes relevant funding opportunities for their realization, which are considered essential for achieving the agreed set of targets. The Implementation Plan was then endorsed by the SET Plan Steering Group members at the meeting held on 13 June 2018. In June 2019, the Implementation Working Group 8 (IWG 8) was launched with the aim to promote the actual implementation of the plan. Key tasks of the Working Group in 2023 are an update of the Key Performance Indicators in the Implementation Plan and a general review of the Plan, in line with the ongoing revamping of the SET-Plan.
