FNR workshop series: Peatland perspectives

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the Agency for Renewable Resources (FNR) invites you to the online workshop series “Peatland perspectives - Paludiculture and climate change mitigation“ in 2023. Peatlands are important carbon sinks and therefore part of the federal government’s Climate Action Programme. FNR has been funding projects in the field of peatland protection and peat use reduction since 2021. With the launch of the "Peatland perspectives" series, we aim to promote international dialogue on peatland protection. The focus will be on paludiculture, greenhouse gas emissions and the circular bioeconomy:

  • “Peatland perspectives – Paludiculture” on 23rd May 2023
  • “Peatland perspectives – Greenhouse gas emissions” on 5th September 2023
  • “Peatland perspectives – Circular bioeconomy” on 17th October 2023

With these events, we aim to support knowledge exchange and networking among European researchers in the field of peatland protection. With this in mind, we look forward to welcoming you to our online workshops this year!

Background information

Paludiculture - "Palus" (Latin) stands for "swamp" - is the agricultural or forestry use of wet peatlands. In paludiculture, biomass for energy production or material use is produced on rewetted peatlands with plant species that tolerate high water levels.
