SET4BIO – Bioenergy and Renewable Fuels for a Sustainable Transport

Project to support the implementation of the Strategic Energy Technology Plan successfully completed

The SET4BIO project, which was funded under the European Research and Innovation Program Horizon 2020, ended on August 31, 2023, supporting the implementation of Priority 8 "Bioenergy and Renewable Fuels for Sustainable Transport" under the EU Commission's SET Plan (Strategic Energy Technology Plan).

Bioenergy is one of the most important sources of renewable energy in Europe and is expected to continue to play a key role in the decarbonisation of the European energy and transport sectors. The Implementation Plan of Priority 8 (IP8) of the SET-Plan, contains detailed targets for the development, demonstration and expansion of the sector. Within SET4Bio, five project partners from five different countries have joined forces with FNR to support the successful implementation of Priority 8 of the SET Plan.

Within the project, public and private stakeholders cooperated to mobilize resources and trigger investments for further developments in the fields of bioenergy and renewable fuels. FNR, as head of Work Package 2 "Industry Involvement and Commitment", was responsible for involving industry, which plays a key role in achieving the goals of the SET-Plan. Therefore, FNR created an overview of key stakeholders in bioenergy and renewable fuels and, with the support of industry partners, developed a needs and gaps analysis. In addition, FNR organized stakeholder events where industry players could present themselves and their current innovations in the fields of bioenergy and renewable fuels. They also had the opportunity to discuss industrial priorities and needs, as well as the design of key funding instruments, with a view to updating the Priority 8 implementation plan.
